Mother/Daughter Date Night at Magic Kingdom Park

“Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.”

It’s so hard to beat that early morning stroll down Main Street, USA: the freshly cleaned streets, the sun rising over Cinderella Castle, catching the Main Street Trolley Show and Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire performances, and let’s not forget the aroma of Main Street Bakery filling the air. So many of us have those special Magic Kingdom memories, but have you ever stayed until after park closure?

After dining at Geyser Point at  Disney’s Wilderness Lodge (view menu here), my eldest daughter and I took the 7pm ferry to Magic Kingdom Park in time for a few Extra Magic Hours, leaving my husband and little one back at the resort. We delighted in magical big-kid bonding time.

Side note: the ferry is our favorite means of transportation to and from the Magic Kingdom.  The ferry boats will transport guests staying at Contemporary Resort, Polynesian Village Resort, Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, Wilderness Lodge, and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground to Magic Kingdom Park.

Arriving at the Magic Kingdom in the evening is much different than arriving first thing in the morning. Most guests, especially those with younger children, are exiting the park for the day. A holiday stroll down Main Street, USA with my seven-year-old in hand was magical. Since we were two ladies enjoying the evening, we did not have to worry about toting the usual caravan of bags or stroller. We had four hours to enjoy the park until it closed for the night, and we did just that.

Since most of the crowds had left for the night, we enjoyed our favorite rides without needing to make Fastpass+ reservations! We had a 30-minute wait for Peter Pan’s flight and a 20-minute wait to take the Floating Lantern photo by Rapunzel’s Tower. Other than that, we breezed right through each line. We were able to ride our favorite nighttime attractions: Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Splash Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

One thing that has been on my Disney bucket list for a few years has been to catch The Kiss Goodnight. The Kiss Goodnight is a special message broadcast through Main Street, USA after the fireworks are over and the park officially closes. Cinderella Castle begins to sparkle, and this message is announced:

“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, on behalf of everyone here at the Magic Kingdom, we thank you for joining us today for a magic gathering of family, friends, fun, and fantasy. We hope your magical journey with us has created wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. Walt Disney said that the Magic Kingdom is a world of imagination, hopes, and dreams. In this timeless land of enchantment, magic and make believe are reborn, and fairy tales come true. The Magic Kingdom is a place for the young and the young at heart. A special place where when you wish upon a star, your dreams can come true. Until we see you again, have a safe trip home. Thank you, and goodnight.”

My daughter and I witnessed The Kiss Goodnight together, and as the crowds began to race for transportation, we decided to head for the train station where we took our last photo of the night in front a vacant Main Street, USA.

Ending our night with one last picture before heading to the ferry boats. November 2019

We both fell asleep snuggled up on the last ferry heading back to the Wilderness Lodge at midnight. Magical moments were made that night at Magic Kingdom Park.

Until Next Time,

-M
